Wait for the Lord

Wait for the Lord

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

Psalm‬ ‭27‬:‭13-14‬ NIV

This scripture applies to all of us. You may be a very patient person, yet still struggling with what you are experiencing as a mama, grandma or caregiver. If patience is not one of your best traits, you may be dealing with frustration on top of learning how to be patient. But there is hope, and it lies in the wisdom of this scripture.

God tells us to wait, be strong, take heart and goodness will come. So how can we be strong and take heart? The answer is simple, yet requires effort and support from others. Reach out to other caregivers, seek therapy, find a mentor for discipleship, or support groups that fit your needs. Making room for support is also important. Let go of some other responsibilities that are not a requirement at this time in your life to make room for rest and support. Remember, everyone's situation is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution. I told myself daily to “enjoy on purpose.” This helped me create joy and focus on milestones even though I did not feel well. For example, I set three month milestones that I could enjoy and celebrate. When my little one weaned off of the bottle, that’s one development I could say goodbye too, be thankful for, and focus on the next milestone. I would also speak to it as “I mastered bottle weaning!” It is important that you speak and focus on positive uplifting language so that you do not feed what you initially are feeling. It helps you see the reality that you ARE mastering motherhood. You just don’t feel well and that is what God is going to deliver you from. If you are a caregiver, you ARE mastering caretaking one day at a time. Set achievable goals for yourself, and celebrate when you meet them to create joy.

It's natural to wonder what kind of goodness God has in store for you, especially when you are feeling down. But trust that His love is beyond your imagination. God's blessings are abundant, and you will feel His love wrapped around you. Remember, your child is a blessing, and your devotion to God will guide you through the tough times. I look at my daughter now and cannot imagine my life without her. I get so excited for the years to come and all the great memories we are going to create. In the dark days I would think that she deserved a better person as a mother. Now, I protect and claim her that she is my blessing and I devote her upbringing to God. Best of all, God loves to throw in surprises to make you smile. It could be a silly thing your child does, a calling, a gift, or simply love. Embrace the surprises and enjoy the journey, even when it's challenging. You are mastering it, and goodness is on the way.
